Thirty-four Murnane Brandt attorneys, staff and family members participated in the June 6 “Challenge Cancer 5k – Celebration of Active Cancer Survivors,” an annual run/walk hosted by local 501(c)(3) nonprofit Charities Challenge. With an increased emphasis on promoting health and wellness among employees, it was the St. Paul law firm’s first year of participation as a team.
“We thoroughly enjoyed supporting Charities Challenge’s run/walk and sharing our team spirit with other attendees for a very good cause,” says shareholder Michael Tierney, who serves on Murnane Brandt’s Wellness Committee.
Murnane Brandt employees were encouraged to participate in the Challenge Cancer 5k by the firm’s Wellness Committee. Participants’ registration fees were covered by the firm; each person also received a bright yellow team t-shirt with the firm’s logo, which was worn the day of the event. Due to its high attendance, Murnane Brandt was publicly recognized by the emcee.
Murnane Brandt’s Wellness Committee was formed in 2007 with the goal of better promoting wellness among employees. To date, the law firm has offered several seminars on exercise, nutrition, stress reduction and other general health issues. In 2008, the Wellness Committee hosted a four-week, firmwide walking challenge that prompted participation by the majority of attorneys and staff. The “Challenge Cancer 5k - Celebration of Active Cancer Survivors,” which honors cancer patients and survivors, offered another opportunity to encourage an active lifestyle.
